Active Ageing Coordinator

The Active Ageing Coordinator will be responsible for following the daily life and social activities detailing specialized care, which promotes a culture of  Active Ageing in the Care Home. S/he shall contribute to the full potential for physical, social, and mental wellbeing, whilst providing an environment where residents are enabled to engage in productive activities and a healthy independent and secure lifestyle.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum, in possession of MQF Level 3 (or equivalent) in Healthcare Studies (e.g. care worker certificate)
  • Willing to obtain the MCAST Diploma or;
  • Other accredited institution (ECVET/ECTS-60) in Active Ageing or the Higher Diploma in Gerontology and Geriatrics at MQF Level 5 (or equivalent) or;
  • Other accredited institution (ECVET/ECTS-60); issued by a registered and licensed institution and that qualification must have a certificate of MQF grading (or equivalent) issued by Malta   Qualification   Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC).
  • Previous professional experience in coordinating active ageing activities will be considered an asset

Job Description:

To be in charge of organising social and recreational activities reflecting the residents’ profile including but not limited to

  • Residents committee; organisation of in-house events such as bingo, physical exercises sessions, and talks by trained people such as health care professionals on the topics of particular relevance to the older persons
  • Organisation of outside events
  • Bedside activities activities promoting active ageing;
  • Social and educational events;
  • To liaise with relatives and staff in order to determine special individual requirements, such as birthdays and anniversaries, cultural and religious celebrations, and to be aware of religious calendar that may affect activity pursuits relevant to the ethnic mix of residents.
  • To regularly assess the effectiveness of the social events and activities programme.
