Financial Controller
One of our clients, a large reputable company in the construction industry, is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join their professional team. The FC will need to oversee the financial operations and manage strategically any financial decision-making. Responsible for the company’s financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and compliance while continuously improving financial processes to align with company’s goals.

The FC will need to oversee the financial operations and manage strategically any financial decision-making. Responsible for the company’s financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and compliance while continuously improving financial processes to align with company’s goals.
Main responsibilities:
- Drive and lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reports. Present financial statements and KPIs to senior management.
- Develop annual budgets and long-term financial projections.
- Conduct variance analysis and offer actionable recommendations for financial optimisation.
- Oversee cost allocation across projects, ensuring profitability, whilst working closely with project managers to track and control project budgets.
- Manage invoicing, accounts receivable, and payable functions – cost management and revenue generation, whilst ensuring that cash flow remains healthy and maintain strong banking relationships.
- Ensure compliance with tax laws and company policies. Drive process improvements and collaborate on financial systems development to enforce required controls.
- Mentor the finance team, ensuring high performance. Foster cross-department collaboration and provide commercial support for tenders and contracts.
Requirements:
- ACCA or equivalent qualification, with eligibility to practice in Malta.
- Proven experience in the construction or contracting sector with expertise in project costing and contract accounting.
- Strong understanding of Maltese Company Law, tax regulations, and financial compliance.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and advanced Excel functions.
- Fluent in English language and Maltese (written and spoken).
- Excellent communication skills to effectively articulate complex financial information to diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and offer practical solutions – analytical mindset
- Proven experience leading and mentoring a finance team
- Accountable for own department whilst working in a team, and communicate effectively with other team members and other departments
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting standards, tax regulations, and emerging financial technologies.
